Cristiano Ronaldo could have married in any stadium, cathedral or palace he chose. Instead, on a Tuesday in August 2026, he and Georgina Rodríguez were married in the living room of their summer house in Cascais, near Lisbon, with their children and four witnesses. The only picture they shared at first showed their joined hands and two gold wedding bands. For a man followed by millions online, it was a notable act of restraint.

The couple
Ronaldo and Rodríguez met at a Gucci store in Madrid in 2016 and have been together since. On August 11, 2025, she announced their engagement on Instagram with a photograph of her ring and the caption “Yes I do.” They married exactly a year later. At the time of the wedding he was 41 and still playing, for Al-Nassr, and she was 32.
Their family is a large one. Ronaldo’s eldest son, Cristiano Jr., was born in 2010, and the twins Eva and Mateo in 2017; Alana Martina, the couple’s first child together, was born in November 2017, and Bella Esmeralda in April 2022. Bella’s twin brother, Ángel, died at birth.
The ceremony
The civil ceremony took place at 1:30 in the afternoon on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, in the living room of the house in Cascais. The witnesses were Georgina’s sister, Ivana Rodríguez; Miguel José, a longtime friend of Ronaldo’s from Sporting Lisbon; and two close friends of Georgina’s who work in jewelry. Explaining the choice of room, the couple said they wanted to marry where they have breakfast, lunch and dinner, “where we live the reality of our lives.”
Afterward the couple had a private blessing at the Shrine of Our Lady of Fátima.
The dress
Rodríguez wore a white silk skirt suit by Gucci, and Ronaldo a light beige cotton suit, also Gucci and made for the occasion. It was a fitting choice of house, since they had met in a Gucci store ten years earlier. A suit rather than a gown suited both the room and the scale of the day, and follows other recent brides who have chosen tailoring for a civil ceremony, among them Dua Lipa in Schiaparelli. The celebration
There was no public reception. The couple announced the marriage with a photograph of their hands on Instagram, and said they had no immediate honeymoon plans because of work. Asked whether there would be a larger party, Rodríguez said she wanted “something intimate, with my partner and our children, at home,” though the couple left open a celebration with family and friends later.
Why it mattered
The wedding reversed every expectation of a superstar wedding. There was no venue to leak, no guest list to speculate about and no dress to reveal. By marrying at home on the anniversary of their first meeting, the couple made the wedding about the relationship rather than the audience, and by including all of their children made it a family event in the plainest sense.
Borrow the idea
Marry on an anniversary. The day you met, or the day you became engaged, gives a wedding date meaning without explanation. Check first which day of the week it falls on; a weekday ceremony at home is easy, a weekday party less so.

Share one photograph, on your terms. A picture of your hands and rings says everything necessary and nothing more.
