Charli XCX and George Daniel’s Wedding, 2025
A Vivienne Westwood mini dress on the steps of Hackney Town Hall, black sunglasses and a veil, then a second celebration in Sicily. Charli XCX married in the least fussy way possible.
Charli XCX, whose album Brat made lime green the color of a summer, married in white, on the steps of a London town hall, in a mini dress and sunglasses. Her wedding to George Daniel, the drummer of The 1975, was small, quick and entirely in character: a registry-office ceremony in Hackney with parents and bandmates, followed two months later by a celebration in Sicily. It is a model for couples who want a real wedding without the machinery of a big one.

The couple
Charli XCX and George Daniel worked together on music before they were publicly a couple; they went public in 2022 and became engaged in November 2023. Daniel is the drummer of The 1975. By the time they married they had been together for about three years.
The ceremony
The ceremony took place on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Hackney Town Hall in east London. The group was small: Charli’s parents, her mother Shameera in pale pink and her father Jon, and Daniel’s bandmates from The 1975. Afterward the couple posed on the registry steps with their families, and the photographs, taken on the street rather than in a garden or a ballroom, are a good part of the wedding’s charm.
The dress
She wore the Nova Cora mini dress by Vivienne Westwood, a corseted design with an off-the-shoulder Bardot neckline and ruched detailing. She added a simple veil, white Jimmy Choo Amita kitten heels, a bouquet and black sunglasses, and wore her hair in loose waves. Daniel wore a sharp suit with a boutonnière.

The celebration in Sicily
On September 14, 2025, the couple held a second celebration in Scopello, Sicily, attended by friends and family. A legal ceremony at home followed by a celebration abroad spares couples the paperwork of marrying in another country. Why it mattered
For a musician whose music celebrates excess and late nights, the wedding was notably restrained. It showed that a town hall wedding can feel as considered as a formal one, if the clothes and the company are chosen with care. It also showed the value of splitting a wedding in two: a small legal ceremony for the people who must be there, and a larger party later for everyone else.
Borrow the idea
Book the town hall early. Popular register offices and city clerks’ chapels book up months ahead for summer Saturdays. Check the legal notice period, which in some places is several weeks, and what documents you need.

Take your photographs on the steps. Civic buildings are made for group pictures. Agree on a list of groupings in advance so the few minutes outside are well used; see our photography guide.
Dress the guests down, too. A town hall ceremony is usually short and the room small. Tell guests that day dress is right, and plan somewhere nearby, a restaurant’s private room or a friend’s garden, for lunch or drinks afterward, so the day does not end on the sidewalk. Keep the guest list to the people who must be there. For a register office, that may be parents, siblings and a few close friends. Everyone else can come to the party.
Save the party for later. A second celebration weeks or months afterward lets you choose a place you love without the pressure of the legal ceremony. Send an announcement first, then a separate invitation.
