The Garter Toss is a ritual that involves both the bride and the groom. The groom removes the brides garter from his brides leg, with much good-natured ribbing from the guests. The groom then tosses the garter into a crowd of unmarried men. Some brides will wear two garters; one for the garter toss and one for a keepsake.
